Los Angeles, CA – July 6, 2026 – Manifest Space, the company building onboard space traffic awareness infrastructure for the orbital economy, today announced a strategic investment from NEC X, the Silicon Valley venture studio backed by NEC's advanced technologies and global businesses. The investment marks Manifest's advancement to Phase 3 of NEC X's Elev X! Ignite Venture Studio Program, the program's advanced stage, where NEC X commits follow-on capital to the startups it backs with the highest conviction.

Manifest builds an independent optical beacon that mounts on a satellite and gives it a persistent, verifiable identity and position in orbit. The beacon transmits a structured stream of position, health, and motion data using light rather than radio frequency, which means no spectrum license, no GPS dependency, and no ground station upgrades. It gives operators, and the wider ecosystem, a verifiable source of truth about what a spacecraft is and where it is, from the moment it deploys.

FLYING THIS OCTOBER

Manifest's first optical beacon is manifested on SpaceX Transporter-18, launching in October 2026 and hosted by Blackwing Space, less than 18 months after the company was founded. The mission will prove the beacon in the environment it was built for and establish flight heritage for the product line. NEC X's investment supports Manifest as it moves from early hardware development to flight-ready technology, and opens a path for the company into the Japanese space ecosystem.

AN OVERSUBSCRIBED PRE-SEED

Manifest has also closed an oversubscribed $1.15M pre-seed round, backed by institutional and strategic investors including Hypernova Fund as first institutional investor, NEC X, E2MC Ventures, C2 Ventures, Marlboro Lane Ventures, and P3A, alongside angel investors from across the space and technology sectors. The round funds Critical Design Review for both the optical beacon and the transponder that follows it.

THE PROBLEM MANIFEST SOLVES

The first hours of a mission are among the riskiest a spacecraft will ever face. Operators deal with delayed acquisition, uncertain state vectors, poor optical visibility, and the difficulty of telling their own spacecraft apart from the cluster of objects deployed alongside it. Ground based radar and optical catalogs infer identity from the outside, using systems never designed for the density of today's constellations.

Aviation solved a version of this problem with ADS-B. Maritime solved it with AIS. In each case the vehicle announces itself, and coordination follows as a consequence. Orbit has never had that layer. Manifest's beacon speaks from the spacecraft itself, turning a private, uncertain picture into a shared and verifiable one, and laying the first piece of that cooperative layer for space.

"Operators lose time, money, and confidence in the first hours of a mission, exactly when they can least afford to be uncertain about where their spacecraft is and whether it is healthy," said Nick Orenstein, co-founder and CEO of Manifest Space. "NEC X backed us when the beacon was still on the bench. That support helped us turn it into flight hardware that launches this October. This investment lets us put verifiable identity and position in orbit and prove it works."
